Little Black Dress Initiative

Junior League of The Woodlands Sustainers started LBDI volunteering together at the Montgomery County food bank.

Can one little black dress, worn for five short days, create awareness about issues that affect others for a lifetime? The Junior League of The Woodlands says YES!

The Little Black Dress Initiative is a week-long social media-driven campaign striving to raise awareness of and funds to address the challenges that face 13.1% of women and children in our area living in poverty. Many of us take for granted our ability to wake up and choose what we would like to wear and eat daily. Not everyone, not every child, is afforded that luxury.

Everyone in the family gets involved during Little Black Dress week.

During the campaign, our advocates wear a black dress and/or their Little Black Dress Initiative t-shirt for five consecutive days to illustrate poverty’s restrictions on choices, opportunities, and access to resources. During the 2023 campaign, our advocates raised over $66,000 for poverty initiatives in our community.

Please stand with us from January 22-26, 2024 as we continue our work to address poverty in our community.
