New Beginnings

The New Beginnings Committee aids in rehabilitating human trafficking survivors through partnerships with community organizations. We strive to provide service and support to nonprofit community organizations to encourage innovation, self-help, leadership, and confidence while building strong relationships with organizations in our community and increasing awareness of community needs.

Junior League of The Woodlands will host “Not a Number” training created by Love146 to increase awareness on how to identify Human Trafficking, ways youth in our community can be vulnerable, break stereotypes on who can be victims, how to spot red flags, and how to have impactful conversations with teens to keep them safe. This event aims to increase awareness, educate our community, advocate for our youth, and learn how to elevate justice.

Taryn Gordon- Advocate/ Guardian Ad Litem

Taryn Gordon is passionate about working with young children – particularly those in the foster care system.  Before becoming involved with youth in foster care, Taryn taught kindergarten and first grade for 15 years in Title 1 schools.  She had many foster children come through her classrooms and always knew she wanted to be involved in organizations that help youth in foster care.  Taryn has been a volunteer advocate for CASA of Montgomery County for over five years, where she has helped children be reunited with their families, and others get adopted into loving families. She is also a teen mentor for Love Fosters Hope.  Taryn has been involved in educating and prevention programs for human trafficking with Love146, which seeks to end child sex trafficking and exploitation. She recently became trained in their ‘Not A Number’ curriculum, which aims to provide youth with skills and information to help them make safe choices and reduce their vulnerabilities.   Taryn lives in Magnolia, TX, with her husband and son.  Together, they volunteer in children’s ministry at their church and support many non-profits centered around caring for children in our community.
