Literacy has always been at the core of Keys to Learning and will continue to be the foundational block on which we build educational opportunities for children in North Harris and Montgomery County. 

Keys to Learning promotes youth development through a multi-disciplined approach incorporating science, technology, reading, engineering, arts, and math into their events. Committee activities include a Junior League branded Literacy Carnival, maintenance of “Little Free Libraries,” supporting potential activities with mobile libraries, and developing additional STREAM-focused events.

Literacy Carnival

For nearly two decades, the Junior League of The Woodlands has promoted the importance of literacy by hosting JLTW Literacy Carnivals. Emphasizing reading, the carnival is held at the Aldine Buckner Hope Family Center, which works with families in need in the Aldine area. The carnival is open to families registered with the Buckner Foundation and children attending Aldine and Humble ISD schools. Each family attending receives a hot lunch, snacks, free books, entertainment, and a chance to participate in various games and literacy-based crafts.

Promoting Literacy through STREAM

Junior League of The Woodlands partners with local non-profit organizations to host engaging STREAM-based events, encouraging interaction between parents and children, promoting literacy, and introducing kids to science, technology, engineering, arts, and math in a fun and interconnected way. We are always looking for additional partnerships to grow this initiative. 

Little Free Libraries

Keys to Learning helped establish Little Free Libraries at the Aldine Bucker Hope Family Center and Creekside Forest Elementary and will continue to maintain these locations bringing more access to books across our service area.
